5th Year Tour Update 30/04/2020


Hello all,

Regarding the cancellation of the tour, we understand your frustration with the situation and that some were disappointed with the lack of detail in the last message. Mr.Whyte and I have been in ongoing contact to try and resolve the situation. We had taken the step of reimbursing money to all through the school to speed up the process. I know it is not a satisfactory situation but as it states below the company will now be dealing with each customer individually. If you require further information please contact the operator directly. Money will be refunded to each of you by the tour operator and not the school as previously stated.

Below is the latest statement from the tour operator:

We thank you for your patience while we have been working hard to try and recoup what we can on the Barcelona tour. Mr Keane and Mr Whyte had very kindly offered to take the total refund to the school and distribute it to the parents to greatly assist us and to speed up the process for you, however we are now going to have to refund the payment ourselves on an individual basis. This is due to Ryanair holding up the refund to us, I’m sure most of you have seen this in the media over the last week. We have spent many hours on to them and they are advising that we will get a refund but there will be a delay and it could take some weeks. Therefore, as soon as we have the money back from Ryanair we will be in a position to refund whatever is owed to you.

The Covid-19 pandemic is an unprecedented experience for everyone, including ourselves as tour operators. It has created problems that are difficult to resolve, as much as we would like to. With regard to refunding all our clients for cancelled trips, it is not straightforward. When we receive deposits and payments from you, we have to pay our suppliers in advance of the travel date in order to secure services including airline seats, accommodation, bus transport, meals etc. As you can imagine, without advance payment, these services would not be guaranteed. This is the normal run of business for any travel agent/tour operator– we cannot retain funds received as payment, and so do not have cash to refund our clients when circumstances such as Covid-19 arise.

We would like to assure you that we have been very persistent in trying to bring about a satisfactory conclusion with our Spanish supplier and in fact over the last few weeks our team have worked tirelessly to get every cent we can back for every parent in every school. However, as things currently stand the companies in Spain are only obliged to give a credit, which will not be used, so we have to count it as lost funds.

I hope that you can appreciate and understand our predicament and the fact that we simply are not in a position to refund that which we do not have.

I can assure you that once the funds arrive in our account from Ryanair then we will be able to start processing your refunds individually. We can only apologise for this delay.
