Presentation De La Salle College

Mission Statement and Ethos

Mission Statement

"This school aims to be a caring community dedicated to the development of the whole person in an atmosphere of mutual respect."

Presentation De La Salle College is a Voluntary Secondary Catholic School. We belong to the CEIST family of schools. CEIST – Catholic Education, an Irish Schools Trust – is the organisation for school trusteeship to which the school belongs.

Our ethos is greatly influenced by the ethos and tradition of our two founding Trustees – Presentation Sisters and De La Salle Brothers.

Ethos

We are a Catholic school and very proud of our Catholic tradition. Our ethos as expressed in the CEIST Charter for Secondary Schools is one of providing an education that fosters human growth and development. Our core values are intended to support and nourish all those who are at the heart of our school – students, staff and parents. Our core values as a CEIST school are as follows:

  • Promoting spiritual and human development – we believe knowledge of and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ gives meaning and purpose to our lives.
  • Achieving quality in teaching and learning – we are committed to excellence and to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Showing respect for every person – we respect the unique and intrinsic value of every person.
  • Creating community – our school is a faith community of welcome and hospitality where Gospel values are lived and where there is special care for those most in need.
  • Being just and responsible – we seek to act justly and responsibly in all our relationships.

Promoting Ambition and Achievement is at the heart of our teaching and learning philosophy and we have very high expectations for all our students. We encourage our students to take responsibility for their learning and we expect a very high commitment from all in the school community to our ethos and core values.
