TRANSITION YEAR
In Presentation De La Salle, Transition Year is an optional one year programme taken between Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate. .
While the primary aim of the programme is the social and personal development of the students, a great emphasis is also placed on the development of independent learning and study skills.
All students currently take each of the following subjects which gives them a helping hand to decide on their future Leaving Certificate subjects.
Irish • English • Maths • Biology • Physics .Chemistry • Computers • Home Economics • Religion • Art • PE • Business • History • Construction • Technical Graphics • Agricultural Science • Speech • French/German
Students also undertake work experience one day each week, this happens on Thursdays. It is important that students choose work experience that is of interest to them. They also take part in a Mini-Company, Junk Kouture, GAA Future Leaders, John Paul II, YSI, Cycle Against Suicide, SVP and in community work.
Throughout the year students also take part in many activities, including:
Hiking - Film making - Adventure sports - Music workshops - First Aid - Attending Conferences - Visit to 3rd level campus - Workshop in Dublin Zoo- Talks from outside agencies-Farm Visit-Comedy Show-Sign Language-DIY skills and much more.
Students are assessed over the year and awarded merits based on project work, attendance, examinations and engagement. They must also complete a portfolio which will be assessed at the end of the year.
